The Alliance for Childhood promotes policies and practices that support children’s healthy development, love of learning, and joy in living. Our public education campaigns bring to light both the promise and the vulnerability of childhood. We act for the sake of the children themselves and for a more just, democratic, and ecologically responsible future.
These are our fundamental beliefs and concerns:
* Childhood is a critical phase of life and must be protected to be fully experienced. It should not be hurried. * Each child deserves respect as an individual. Each needs help in developing his or her own unique capacities and in finding ways to weave them into a healthy social fabric. * Children today are under tremendous stress and suffer increasingly from illnesses such as allergies, asthma, hyperactive disorders, obesity and depression. This stress must be alleviated.
We encourage all visitors with an interest in our work to register with the Alliance. We'll keep you posted on our activities as well as issues of concern.
Imagine a child raised according to the nutritional wisdom of our ancestors. This child grows up free of the common ailments and diseases that we currently take for granted. This child's strong, white teeth grow in straight - and free of tooth decay. This child is attentive and engaged, and can learn easily and readily because of optimal brain development. This child is energetic by day and sleeps soundly at night. This child has a strong immune system, does not experience childhood illnesses or allergies, and has a stable, cheerful and optimistic disposition.
